BEAR SPRING'S MAY 15-18, 2015

COME BACK, RELAX, AND FISH!!

home01.jpg

Happy New Year everyone! 2014 brought in a year of changes. My father, Doug Chaffin, closed on a new residence in North Myrtle Beach, SC. My son, Christopher, moved to Seattle WA. Donna and I are getting our house ready to be put on the market in February and plan on moving locally. Donna's daughter, Sam, got married and I now have her father-n-law to invite along to this year's trip, which will be fun!

This year's trip is seasonally a week earlier than usual. Last year was about the same, the ice out was late due to a cold winter and this year may not be any different. Last year, we experienced much better pike fishing and the small mouth were just beginning to become active when we left. The weather wasn't great, very windy and rainy, so this might be a reminder that this time of year sees dramatic weather changes to be prepared for. Also, the black flies were there to greet us, but quickly dissipated once the foul weather kicked in.

If you are planning on attending this year's trip, please go to our website www.mayfishingtrip.com and print out the application form. Please, specify if a boat will be needed and your preference of a 14hp deep-V, or a 6hp traditional hull. Bear Springs is limited on how many 14's they have, so it will be on a first come, first serve basis. This means that as I receive your forms, with deposit of $100 pp made out to: Bear Spring Camps, that I will mark them in the order they were received in to make engine requests fair. The $100 pp deposit is not refundable and balance is due at the time of check out. Bear Spring Camps does not take credit cards, only checks and cash. The applications will be due to me by March 27th. Gratuity is up to you, but please plan on having cash to put in the gratuity envelopes for the boat boy, waitress's, and cleaning ladies.

The forms will be mailed to me;

Every year we have 2 fishing pools for a little friendly competition. There is a pool for bass and pike on Saturday and again on Sunday. The pools require that a photo be taken and the fish weighed at the time it was caught, since most of us practice catch and release. The winner is decided when all the boats are in at the end of the day, each day. In the event that the weather is too poor to go out in, the pool may be doubled on the second day. The entry fee to each pool is $5, so please have change to put in the envelopes.

Lastly, we have a group of guys that leave for BSC on Thursday and stay in Dover, NH to break up the trip to Maine. The accommodations are reserved by my brother and there is a section on the application for that asks if you will be joining us in Dover? Please, consider this as an opportunity to join us for great food, drinks, and casual bar-hopping around the town of Dover.

See you on the water!

Chris Chaffin

Anyone that may have photos from last year please e-mail them to Phil at bhe@b-h-e.com and he will post them on this site.
