BEAR SPRING CAMP'S 49TH
MAY 17-20, 2019

I turn 50 this year, and this trip turns 50 next year. I'm not sure which makes my father feel older, having a 50-year-old son, or that it's been almost 50 years since the first trip up to Castle Island. When there's a tradition that lasts this long, it grows into generations. The older generations are now experiencing some of the challenges of making the trip. The younger generations hearing the fun stories of the past and making choices to continue creating their own or move on to something else. I certainly respect and appreciate this tradition more now than ever before. For me, this trip has meant having a few days just to spend with my dad, or with my son, or both. Change is inevitable, so cherishing the moments together while we still have them has become very important. Thanks to this trip, we all have that opportunity!

I am hoping for another year of great weather, and even better fishing. It seemed that the "Allen" group had an awesome year of pike fishing with live bait early in the AM. There are limited boats that have 14HP motors. If you need one of these, please specify on the application. Also, improvements last year included two new boats and motors that had flat floors for standing! Friday nights are lobster nights, but they do offer steak as well. Please, note on the application if you want either.

My brother, Tim, will be reserving rooms at the hotel in Dover for the night of the 16th. If anyone is interested in hanging out with us and breaking up the trip north, please acknowledge this by checking the box on the application that relates to staying in Dover. We usually arrive there around 4PM, have a few cocktails, and then head over to Christopher's Grill for dinner.

I am asking for a quick turn around on the deposits this year, please. I am supposed to get a head count to Pam, at Bear Springs, by January. However, it just seems too early to send you guys letters in December at the peak of the holidays. Try to return the downloadable application from the website www.mayfishingtrip.com by March 1st. Include a $100 per person deposit check made out to Bear Spring Camps to my address: 24 Goose Lane, Coventry, CT 06238. I want to thank Phil Moore for hosting and updating our website. We miss him dearly!

See you all on the water!
